Executive Chef - Christopher Picek
Chef Picek was born in Inuvik, in the Northwest Territories and after culinary training at SAIT, he “cut his teeth” at the Wedgewood Hotel, Relais & Chateau, in Vancouver. Chef Picek has travelled and worked in Europe and upon returning to Canada he helped open the well-known Calgary restaurant Capo, which subsequently went onto being named 'one of Canada's best new restaurants' in enRoute Magazine.
Chef Picek left Capo and moved over to the head Chef position at Il Sogno, which was Calgary’s premier Italian restaurant. Chef Picek’s love of Italian cuisine and baking saw him return to the West Coast where he helped open Nicli Antica, Vancouver's first certified Neapolitan pizzeria. Picek returned to Calgary where he honed his baking skills and was co-founder of the Grain Exchange.
Chef Picek has joined Tapas as their Head Chef and looks forward to integrating his Italian culinary and baking background into our well loved Spanish menu. Owners, Wendy Simpson and James Kendal are very excited in the new direction taking place in the kitchen and after tasting Chef Picek’s food they knew right away that the restaurant was in capable hands as it begins a new culinary journey. The Tapas team look forward to a busy season with new creative menus and happy diners.
